Teachers AID
Type: Product redesign
Time: 8 weeks
Team: Individual
Opportunity:
Redesign an existing walkie talkie and make it better suited for a specific consumer to unlock a new customer.
The Idea:
Walkie talkie can transmit clear information to (a) other faculty, and (b) elementary students in a school setting admist a chaotic environment.

First, I disassembled the original design to view the components to understand how much space is needed for the electronics.

I found a lack in technology designed for teachers. Technology should be straightforward, so teachers can engage with their students. Another way to prioitize engagement is to use CMF that reflects the environment it's used in. Making the walkie talkie playful can engage students to listen to their teacher, and creates trust.
In elementary school, I remember teachers carrying around sophistocated, black walkie talkies balanced on their clipboards, since they didn't have a way to clip in on their clothes. It never matched their classroom or the types of decoration they liked - it looked out of place. Teachers would shout instructions to the class multiple times a day, and occasionally lose their voice. How can technology be designed to make teaching easier, instead of an obstacle?

Assembly process of 3d prints. A loop on the back end allows for any form of carabiner attachment.
