Washi Tape Dispenser

A solution to clunky, unfriendly tape dispensers through the use of lattice technology.

I explored designs that could be printed in one piece, while ideating ways to easily change the tape roll. A quick, seamless, and satisfying removal and loading process was the goal.

Modeling gave clarity on what worked and what did not. During this process, I realized another design consideration was how easy it is to grab the tape. To solve this, I added grooves, which gave the side profile character and function.

The mockup tears the tape perpendicular, but with an organic edge. This could make it ideal for scrapbooking. Adding a dense material at the lip as a secondary process, or printing with Carbon 3d's custom materials could make it functional for other tapes. Ideally, the main body is rigid, while the latticed cylinders are elastic.
